Perfecting Your Recipe

You know that saying, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade?

Well, I think it should go like this: “When life hands you lemons, you learn to make lemonade.”

Key word being, “learn.”

Why is that you may wonder? Well, everyone’s lemonade recipe is different. If we had the same recipe, why would there be different brands, multiple flavors, or children selling their special “Freshly Squeezed Lemonade” made with love on the front lawn of their home?

If the recipe was the same, we would have a consistent sweetness to the taste, the right amount of sugar, and not too little, yet not too many, lemons.

Why so much focus on a childhood saying? What is the point?

My point is life is not consistent for everyone. The life we experience is not the same life as a friend, as a family member, as a coworker, or as a stranger. Our perception is independent of another’s. So, what I’m saying here is that we can make memories, we take in experiences, and we can live life, but it will never be the same perspective as someone else. Learning to make lemonade is essentially learning your purpose, your path, and yourself.

You must be willing to take the risk. Finding your path is not an instant layout. Instead, we have to look at the blueprint, and be okay with changes, closures, and mistakes along the way. Be accepting of the disruptions in your life. We cannot get to where we are meant to be without learning where we are not. In other words, life is a mix of wins and mishaps. There is a process, a step-by-step outline. We cannot instantly have a sweet, chilled glass of lemonade served to us at our fingertips. We must work for it. We learn the right recipe after altering the previous one.

The measurements and ingredients may change, but the end result will remain the same. Each moment you encounter in your life is a steppingstone towards fulfilling your dreams. Take in every day as a new opportunity to continue learning the recipe of your life. It will not come easy, yet if you continue a willingness to learn, the answers will be found.

Life won’t be perfect. Therefore, your recipe may not appear perfect, but it will be yours. Specifically crafted to your taste and likeness. It will be your recipe, the one you follow to create the life you wish to live. It will have the right amount of taste, of sweetness, and not too little, yet not too many, lemons.
